This week we feature three sustainable escapes in country Victoria. Looking to not only getaway, but to be inspired to live a little more sustainably? Reduce your footprint, live a little greener and check out these unique, designer abodes.

Sustainable Escapes

10 Star Home – Cape Paterson, Bass Coast

2 Bedrooms | 2 Bathrooms

Rates from $170 per night

This sustainable escape was built by The Sociable Weaver to educate and inspire, and showcase the best in sustainable living. The 10 Star Home is the first in Victoria to be awarded a 10 star energy rating and the first house in Australia to be carbon positive. Created from an inspiration to develop a zero waste living model, this home is a feat in sustainable design and living. Around the house, you’ll find several thoughtful tips and tricks on how to live a more eco conscious existence. These are gentle and clever ways to provoke thought and create change. This home is not just pleasing for the environment, it certainly pleases the eye as well. Construction materials are on show, and have a mixture of soft coloured, textured and smooth finishes which come together to create warm and welcoming spaces. Located at The Cape, a sustainable eco village development, it is just a few hundred metres walk from the beach, making it the perfect base for a coastal getaway. Looking for a unique and sustainable experience along the Bass Coast? Check out the 10 Star Home.

Update 26/10/2020: the 10 star home is currently not accepting guest reservations. We’ll keep you updated if this is to change!

The Recyclable House – Beaufort, Goldfields

4 Bedrooms | 2.5 Bathrooms

Rates from $280 per night

The Recyclable House was built by host and owner Quentin Irvine of Inquire Invent. The aesthetic inspiration for the home was drawn from the iconic Australian woolsheds which we all can picture in our minds. What sets this house apart is the use of experimental, closed loop, “cradle-to-cradle” design and construction methodologies. Quentin was always drawn to the philosophy that there is no waste in nature, and humans being wasteful doesn’t fit with this. The result is a house that could be taken apart and the materials recycled for a new purpose. With a bold zincalume finish on the outside, the inside has an honest and functional fit-out, with plenty of native timber and a wood fire that create a cosy and welcoming environment. The home is located in the town of Beaufort – a quiet Victorian town on the way to the Grampians. Enjoy a round of golf, check out the lake and admire the historic buildings. A day trip to Sovereign Hill is also only 40 minutes away.

The Bungalow – Cape Paterson, Bass Coast

3 Bedrooms | 2 Baths

Rates from $199 per night

Born from an inspiration to create a little space that feels big, The Bungalow does just that. With a footprint of only 120sqm they’ve managed to create a three-bedroom home that feels expansive. Check out the light-filled, double-height, raked ceiling – it adds a real sense of space to the home. The design philosophy of The Bungalow incorporates the Japanese principles of creating spaces that influence your behaviour and way of life, and the Scandinavian approach of functional minimalism. Constructed from sustainable materials and built in accordance with passive solar principles this is an environmentally friendly and energy efficient holiday home. The Bungalow is also located at The Cape eco village – making it a great spot for a beach getaway. ⠀
