When the builder and friend of Courtney and Hamish was building Sky High, he joked from time-to-time, that he was building it for them. Well, it wasn’t a joke for long. When the home hit the market, it not only captured the attention of Sky News, it won Courtney and Hamish over. They jumped at the opportunity to purchase this wonderful home.
Sky High is a four-bedroom retreat on 50 acres of land in Mt Franklin. Built atop a gorgeous ridge it offers breathtaking views from all angles.
The Origins Guide had a chat with Courtney and Hamish, owners and hosts at Sky High Mount Franklin.
What attracted you to Sky High Mount Franklin?
We had a suspicion early on that our friends Josh and Tik who created Sky High would create something spectacular. With our background in health and wellness, we were attracted to the area. Mount Franklin is located in Spa Country with Hepburn & Daylesford a short 5-10 minutes drive away.
We were invited here several times during the build to see the progress. Each time we were blown away. Josh’s joke soon wore off and we fell in love with the home.
Those views must have significantly influenced the design?
Every single part of this luxury residence has been designed to capture the incredible location and outlook. The home features vistas from every single room – even the loo and the laundry. As far as interiors go, we opted for a stylish simplicity. We wanted a minimal and paired back aesthetic so it wouldn’t take away from the stunning views. That is what you’re here for. Bringing the outside in and focusing upon the spectacular landscape and ranges was key.
WHAT DO GUESTS MOST LOVE ABOUT SKY HIGH?
The first word that leaves a guests mouth when they arrive at Sky High is WOW!
Although people are blown away by the photos, it’s once they arrive at the peak, that the location truly sinks in. It’s even more spectacular than they could have imagined. The ever-changing scenery is magical. It’s spectacular to watch a storm roll in and soothing to mark the passing of the day with a glass of wine and magical sunset.
Mornings are perfect for yoga and watching the sunrise over the valley. We have a lot of guests that love the wellness aspect. Our long deck looking out to the ranges is the perfect location for a spot of yoga. The central courtyard is also great for meditation, with the trickling sound of the water feature and the sounds of the local birdlife.
In the evenings guests love getting into the kitchen and cooking a meal with locally sourced produce. When the cooler months are upon us it’s cosy to gather around the woodfire with a scrumptious cheese platter and a glass of local vino. We also have a plunge pool that’s heated in winter. Though it’s during the hot summers that the plunge pool offers a beautiful respite from the long warm days.
WHAT BRINGS YOU MOST JOY ABOUT THE HOME AND THE SPACE?
When we arrive, time has this wonderful ability to stand still. Being able to take time to catch your breath and seek solace from the fast pace of city-life is a pleasure.
No day is ever the same at Sky High. It is forever changing and provides us an opportunity to appreciate different aspects of the landscape. From magical sunrises, vibrant sunsets, storms rolling in and the velvety green hue of “Lalgambook” Mount Franklin on our back doorstep. We feel safe from the elements but still able to take in the beauty… with a local wine in hand of course!
IF YOU COULD BRING ANYONE TO DINNER AT SKY HIGH WHO WOULD IT BE?
This makes me a tad sentimental. It would have to be my wonderful father. Sadly, we lost him four years ago. He was born and bred in Bendigo and just loved coming up to our nearby farm with us both and his grand children. He loved getting out on the land with Hamish chopping wood, fixing the odd fence, picking fruit from the orchard and of course, checking the yabby nets with the grandchildren.
He would have loved Sky High. The copper water feature in the central courtyard was a gift from my Mum Robyn and today is a monument to her and my Dad. Quite fitting given he loved landscaping gardens and courtyards. When I hear it trickle, I always think of him and know how much he would’ve enjoyed it here at Sky High.

It may just be the ultimate luxury. Yes, the views are one in a million and yes, the home is absolutely wonderful. But as Courtney and Hamish say, it also has an amazing ability to help one slow down and relish the time we have with those closest to us. Isn’t that the ultimate luxury?
