Riversdale Retreat is an eco-friendly home with Japanese design elements. Designed by Insite, the Retreat floats above the site, while sitting comfortably amongst its native bushland setting. The home incorporates giant sliding screens that control climate and articulate the facade – moulding and shaping views and allowing occupants to be conscious of the natural environment. It’s the perfect space for those looking to disconnect.
The home boasts a cosy lounge area with wood fire, a Japanese tatami lounging area and can accommodate up to 3 adults with one queen sized bed and a single bed. I must say we really love the built-in day lounge on the verandah outside. It’s such a thoughtful touch and perfect for lazy afternoons, book in hand with a refreshing gin and tonic. Having been shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival Awards, it’s a unique space of distinction.
The space not only provides an immersive natural experience but has also been designed with the environment in mind. Eco credentials include solar hot water, rainwater harvesting and impressive insulation.
Enjoy nearby walking tracks, wildlife and admire the local birdlife. You may even see kangaroos passing by the retreat. Whilst the home provides a nature escape it is conveniently located within walking distance to Wesley Hill Farmers Market and local township.
The restaurants and cafes of Castlemaine are also only a short 10min drive away so you’ll be able to spend a few days exploring the local delights. Whilst in town check out The Mill Castlemaine, a unique collaborative space with a bunch of artisans showcasing some great local products and produce. For coffee, Das Kaffeehaus is the place for your caffeine fix.
Enjoy a relaxed and laidback few days immersed amongst a natural bush setting!
