There's something wonderful about 19th century cottage homes. There's a real soul, story and old world charm - a quaint and somewhat less complicated time. Historical homes have a special way of reminding us of time passing by, gently coercing us to take a moment to stop and appreciate the world around us. This week the Origins Guide profiles four charming cottage stays that we think you should have on your travel wishlist.

Charming Cottage stays

Wentworth House – Daylesford

3 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms

Rates from $560 per night

A house should evoke emotion and feeling, and this is certainly true of Wentworth House Daylesford. Entering the quaint facade of the 1850’s miner’s cottage, you are immediately transported into a dreamy and decadent space. A luxury fantasy space with a more-is-more design ethos. Step into the fantasy world of owners David and his design partner Jessica of Dunbarlo Interiors.

This is truly one of my favourite spaces. When we travel, I’m looking for escapism, a bit of fantasy that’s worlds away from the everyday. With three bedrooms and three bathrooms its perfect for families or a couple of friends looking for a few days away. Also being located on the cusp of Lake Daylesford its quiet yet centrally located.

Looking for charming yet dreamy cottage stay? This is one to put on your list.

The French Cottage – Beechworth

3 Bedrooms | 2 Bathrooms

Rates from $240 per night

Beechworth is a charming high-country town known for its architecture, honey and gold-rush history. With some two dozen boutique winemakers it is fast becoming a prominent regional destination for food and wine lovers.

The French Cottage Beechworth is a charming 3 bedroom cottage offering peace and seclusion within close proximity to Beechworth township. Built in the 1850s the house was originally used as a staging inn. After buying the home, the hosts set out on a renovation to lighten and brighten the interiors – maintaining the charm of the cottage but creating a more paired back look with all the modern amenities one would expect.

Our favourite aspect of this home though is the leafy verandah and manicured French gardens. It’s the perfect place to spend several days relaxing in the afternoon sun and taking in the fresh country air.

Each of the cottage’s three bedrooms are unique and personally styled – and there will be no fighting over bathtubs!
